Bruno the Bunny and the Caterpillar Car: A Story About Sharing

Once upon a time, in a sunny little burrow lived a fuzzy brown bunny named Bruno. Bruno had the hoppity-hippity happiest heart, especially since it
was almost his birthday! He wiggled his nose with excitement, picturing all the wonderful presents he might get.
Finally, the big day arrived! It was Saturday morning, and Bruno hopped out of bed, his tail twitching with anticipation. He raced downstairs, where his mommy and daddy were waiting with wide smiles. In their paws, they held a brightly wrapped box with a giant red bow.

Bruno’s fluffy ears perked up. ‘‘Is it for me?’’ he squeaked, his big brown eyes sparkling.
‘‘Of course, it is, birthday bunny!’’ chirped his mommy, handing him the box.

Bruno carefully unwrapped the paper, shredding it with playful nibbles. Inside, nestled amongst colorful tissue paper, was the most amazing thing he’d ever seen! It was a bright yellow and green caterpillar car with a long, squishy body and wiggly green wheels. The car even had a tiny seat that perfectly fit a little toy bunny. Bruno squealed with delight. ‘‘It’s the most wonderful car ever! Thank you!’’ he exclaimed, zooming it around the room. He spent the rest of the day whizzing and zooming the car everywhere, pretending to be the fastest bunny driver in the whole world.
On Monday morning, Bruno hopped to school, clutching his precious caterpillar car. He couldn’t wait to show it off to his friends. At school, everyone
gathered in the big playroom, eager to share their weekend stories.
Bruno bounced excitedly, holding up his car. ‘‘Look, everyone! I got the most amazing caterpillar car for my birthday!’’
His friends’ eyes widened. Sarah the squirrel gasped. ‘‘Wow, Bruno, that’s so cool!’’ she exclaimed.
His good friend Patrick the panda was quite impressed. ‘‘Wow, Bruno, that caterpillar car is amazing!’’ he exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement. ‘‘Can I hold it for a second?’’ he asked hopefully.

Bruno felt proud of his new car and wanted to keep it for himself at first. Can you remember a time when you didn’t want to share a toy with your
friend or sibling? Why did you feel like that? What happened in the end? How did you both feel afterward? (This question prompts readers to reflect
on their own feelings of possessiveness and ways to overcome them while also encouraging empathy towards the other person.)
